Samantha (Sam) Portillo

KPA-CTP, APDT, FEAR FREE, AKC EVALUATOR

I’m the owner of Trusted Tails LLC and a certified professional dog trainer serving families throughout Union County and the greater Charlotte area.

I specialize in behavior-focused, science-based dog training for families who want more than surface-level obedience. Whether you’re raising a new puppy, navigating reactivity, working through fear-based behaviors, or addressing more complex challenges, my work centers on one goal: helping you build clarity, confidence, and lasting results with your dog.

A Calm, Structured Approach to Behavior

Behavior issues can feel overwhelming. Reactivity on walks, barking at guests, separation anxiety, resource guarding — these challenges impact daily life.

My role is to bring structure and direction to those situations.

I focus on creating clear training plans that prioritize emotional regulation, communication, and real-world application. Training shouldn’t just “work” during a session — it should transfer into your everyday routines.

Families often come to me feeling frustrated or unsure of what to do next. They leave with a plan, practical tools, and the confidence to move forward.

Dog training is unregulated. Anyone can call themselves a trainer.

I chose to pursue formal education and certification because families deserve qualified guidance, especially when behavior challenges are involved.

My work is rooted in modern learning science and professional standards, and I am committed to continuing education to ensure the families I serve receive thoughtful, up-to-date support.

Leadership You Can Trust

Life With My Own Dogs

At home, my husband and I share life with three very different personalities — Winnie, Luna, and Maple.

Living with dogs who each have unique temperaments reinforces what I teach every day: progress requires patience, clarity, and consistency. There is no one-size-fits-all approach, and thoughtful training always respects the individual dog.
